Seventeen-year-old medical aspirant Anita S decided to end her struggle on Friday, a few months after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition filed by her and a few other students against the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).

The daily wager family poor girl from Kuzhumur village in Ariyalur district, who believed that the newly launched entrance test was detrimental to the interests of students from rural areas, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home early that morning.

Anita was depressed by the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the plea against NEET.

Commerce minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitaram has assured one year waiver and based on her advice Tamilnadu government prepared G.O but Modi government opposing tamilnadu government stand at Supreme Court was totally different from their own Minister stand that shocked parties in Tamilnadu.

Describing Anita as a “bright and hardworking student”, a relative told media persons that her dream was to become a doctor and serve disadvantaged people. “She would have bagged a seat if the Tamil Nadu government’s admission policy was still being implemented. But the Centre’s move to make NEET compulsory for medical admissions worked against her, and many others too,” he said.

Rajinikanth, Kamalhassan Dhanush Siva Karthikeyan and many Tamilnadu film actors has tweeted in support of Anitha .

Opposition leader M.K Stalin equally criticised ADMK and BJP government and other opposition parties leader inclusive Vaiko, Communists criticised Modi government.

DMK Ariyalur District Secretary Sivasankar has said due to this year NEET, 33 students from one CBSE school in chennai got admission but not even single candidate got admission from his district., but on an average 15 students from Government school from most backward area used to get in to medical admissions previous years he added.

Education analysts said NEET is bound to increase the gap between rural and urban in medical admission in Tamilnadu.

While writing this my conscious asking how come a participating body (CBSE) can be allowed to conduct exam. Instead like IIT., here Medical council of India or AIMS should be the conducting body for NEET .
