UPSC exam result 2017 was announced on Friday. A candidate from Telangana ranked the highest to be the year’s topper.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday announced the results of the Civil Services examinations held in October 2017, with Hyderabad candidate Anudeep Durishetty topping the list.

As many as 990 names were recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service and Central Services (IPSC), Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.

This is based on the results of the UPSC written exam held in October-November, 2017 and the personality test interviews held in February-April, 2018.

Out of 980 posts, 54 posts are for reserved categories.

This year’s top five achievers details are :

1st rank: Anudeep Durishetty
Twenty-eight-year-old Durishetty topped the UPSC exam after attempting it five times. Son of an assistant divisional engineer and a homemaker, Durishetty hails from Metpalli town in Jagitial district. In his second attempt in 2013, Anudeep got the IRS cadre and was appointed as a customs and central excise officer.

2nd rank: Anu Kumari
Hailing from Haryana’s Sonepat district, Anu Kumari, bagged the second rank. The 31-year-old is married to a business man and has a son. An MBA graduate, Kumari worked nine years before she quit to attempt the UPSC exam.

3rd rank: Sachin Gupta
Gupta studied to be a mechanical engineer and later worked in a private company. However, he to pursue his dreams of being a civil servant, he quit his job to join a coaching institute in Delhi. This was Gupta’s third attempt; in his first attempt in 2016, the Sirsa candidate got rank 575 all India.

4th rank: Atul Prakash
In his second attempt, the 24-year-old Prakash scored the fourth rank. Hailing from Buxar in Bihar, Prakash is an alumnus of IIT-Delhi.

5th rank : Pratham Kaushik
Kaushik is a materials and metalurgical engineer. The 24-year-old’s father said this was Kaushik second attempt at the UPSC exam.
