While the Union Budget faced its fair share of criticism from the Opposition for ignoring the middle class and cheating the citizens of the country with unworkable ideas like the National Health Insurance Scheme, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) allies too haven't spared the party.

Shiv Sena's open criticism of the BJP is folklore now. What is new is the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) vocally expressing its antagonism. The southern party has rejected the Budget proposals. Speaking to India Today exclusively, party Lok Sabha MP Rammohan Naidu said the BJP has rejected coalition dharma and ignored Andhra Pradesh.

"Our demands haven't been met. They have been mentioned in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. These include creation of a new railway zone for the state of AP, more funds for the Pollavaram [irrigation] project. We need to build a new capital. We've waited for four years and nothing substantial has been said or done by the central government," Naidu added.

Recently TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu openly reprimanded and warned the BJP for not reigning in its leaders in Andhra Pradesh for speaking out against the TDP on various issues.

Chandrababu said, "I've been maintaining coalition dharma and telling my party members not to vent in public. If you can't tell your BJP leaders the same, then I'm willing to do 'namaskaram', and chart our own future course of action."

Commenting on his boss' statement, Rammohan Naidu says, "Parties in a coalition have to respect the dharma. They have to respect each other's views. We've been doing that on our part. But when it comes to the BJP, their state leaders have been saying things that shouldn't have been said when we are still in an alliance with them."

Given the growing strains within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has called a meeting of his party MPs in Andhra Pradesh's capital Amravati on Sunday morning.

He will hear their views on the political prudence or not of staying within the NDA.While Rammohan Naidu is non-committal about what the future holds, there are other colleagues who are already publicly indicating snapping of ties if push comes to shove.

BJP's constant flirting with Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party is also riling the TDP.

"Budget was a great opportunity for them [BJP] to show their commitment towards the people of AP. But in the two-hour speech by Arun Jaitley, AP wasn't mentioned even once. That shows a very low attitude of the Central government towards the state of AP," Rammohan Naidu said.
