Carrying a five-month-old foetus in a bag, a woman walked into a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha to file a rape complaint on Sunday.

The woman alleged that she had been raped six months ago and forcefully given contraception pills by the accused after she got pregnant.

"The woman and the accused were in a relationship and to avoid marrying her, the boy made her abort the pregnancy," a police officer said.

A complaint has been registered against the accused and investigation is underway, according to police.

Government data shows reported cases of crime against women rose by 83 percent between 2007 and 2016, when there were four cases of rape reported every hour.

According to a poll of global experts, India is the world's most dangerous country for women due to the high risk of sexual violence and being forced into slave labour.
