In what can be termed as a redux of Unnao rape case, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur has alleged local BJP leader’s son of raping her and threatened self-immolation in case the local police fails to arrest both of them.

The woman who sat on a dharna against the police inaction on Tuesday claimed that she was getting death threats. Her lawyer Avdhesh Singh said that ‘goons came to her house and told her to take back the complaint or else they'll kill her.’

According to an Indian Express report, the woman accused Verma’s son of abducting her and raping her for nine days in 2012.

Later, the Crime Branch of CID had filed a closure report due to lack of evidences.

‘Officials have promised to take appropriate action against the MLA and Manoj (BJP leader’s son) by May 21. If they failed to keep the promise, I would immolate myself at the collectorate office,’ the woman was quoted as saying by the Indian Express report.

The woman has challenged the Crime Branch’s closure report and demanded further probe in the case.

The incident has the strange similarity with the Unnao rape case where a minor was allegedly raped by BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar in June last year.

Since then, the victim’s family was running to get the MLA arrested. She had made an abortive bid to commit suicide near CM’s residence on April 8.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had recommended a CBI probe last month, after the death of the victim’s father in police custody on April 9. The gang rape victim’s father was brutally thrashed by the MLA’s brother and four others in Makhi village on April 4.

On Tuesday, the arrested BJP MLA was shifted to the Sitarpur District Jail from Unnao, along with his close aide and co-accused Shashi Singh.
