The 9-km stretch from Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan to UP Gate, would help reduce congestion on roads leading to Noida and Ghaziabad.
The total length of the project is 82 km, of which the first 27.74 km will be 14-lane, the rest will be a 6-lane expressway.
The project, which is being built in four segments, will be fully completed by March 2019. The segments will be Nizamuddin Bridge to UP Border, UP Border to Dasna, Dasna to Hapur and Hapur to Meerut.
The 135-km Eastern Peripheral Expressway envisages signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Palwal. The expressway has been built in a record 17 months. Its foundation stone was laid by PM Modi in November 2015.
Today with much fanfare Modi inaugurated the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) first leg of 9 kms that the project consultant claimed will reduce the volume of commercial traffic by 35% in Delhi, allowing 52,000 vehicles to bypass the national capital everyday.
The Rs 11,000-crore EPE will connect Sonipat to Palwal through Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Faridabad while serving as a bypass for vehicles entering Delhi for 135 Km with a cost of 81 Crores /Km.
Modi’s government has in its budgetary between 2014-15 and 2018-19, the overall budgetary allocation for the highways sector was increased from Rs 32,000 crore to Rs 71,000 crore.

As on date Experts Engineers Quote similar National highways work will be in range of 20~25 crores / km for 6 lane is only been budgeted.
