After the torrential rain on Friday, a 70-year-old beggar was found floating in the flooded service lane near the Marina beach on Friday morning.

In a similar incident, at Periamedu, a man from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Mukesh, was found dead on the flooded road.

Seven rain-related deaths were reported across the city on Thursday, taking the overall toll to 12, since the northeast monsoon set in on October 27.

On Thursday night, a 60-year-old woman in Ennore died after the wall of her house collapsed on her. Since the woman, identified as Radhiya, was living alone in a dilapidated building, she was found under the debris only in the morning.

On Giriappa Street, T Nagar, a 28-year-old teaseller died after being struck by lightning. The victim, Prashanth, was placing sandbags at the entrance of his shop to prevent water from entering, when he was struck by lightning.

At Adambakkam, a construction worker from Bihar was electrocuted in a building under construc tion on Thursday night. Police said Gajendra Babu was carrying construction materials to the fourth floor when he suffered an electric shock in the lift and died.

Another contract worker, Kamlesh, fell into the river at Basin Bridge and was washed away. He was employed to clean debris on the bridge to prevent water stagnation.

At Pallavaram, another man was found dead in a quarry. Police are yet to establish his identity.

Meanwhile High Court Chief Justice has come down heavily on State ADMK Government for not taken up dredging of lakes for proper water storage across tamilnadu.

Whereas Chief Minister has replied in press conference Rs 1150 Crores been allotted for lake cleaning ans waterways improvement but environmentalists allege government has not spend any monies or efforts to clear up water ways and lakes.
