In an unprecedented move first of its kind India apex court initiated contempt proceedings against a sitting High Court judge.Justice Karnan on the charges that he has been accused of writing disparaging letters to the Prime Minister, Law Minister, Supreme Court Registrar about sitting and retired top court and High Court judges.

Earlier Justice Karnan refused to appear before the apex court in contempt case. Today seven-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar issued bailable warrants against sitting Calcutta HC judge C.S. Karnan after he failed to appear in the Supreme Court in a contempt case. DGP of West Bengal will serve the warrant to Justice Karnan, SC bench also asked Justice Karnan to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and appear before it on March 31.

On February 8, 2017 in an unprecedented move, a seven-judge Bench of the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court issued contempt of court notice against Justice C.S. Karnan for impeding justice administration and bringing discredit to the judicial institution of the country by writing scurrilous letters about sitting and retired judges.

Earlier Justice Karnan stayed SC's decision transferring him from Madras HC to Calcutta HC but subsequently followed the transfer order. Justice karnan told several times in open media being a Dalit he been victimised by his super caste superiors. His open charge against then Chief Justice Kaur who recently moved to Supreme court on promotion is a point of content onlookers observe.

In retaliation move Justice Karnan stayed Apex court warrant and directed CBI to initiate probe against the alleged Corrupt Judges in Supreme Court
